Don't know what streaming services you have access to, but we're enjoying Samurai Gourmet, which strikes me as a good show to learn some Japanese with (either with subtitles on or turning them off when you're feeling confident).

I am fascinated with Japanese culture and particularly their music and cinema. Of course Studio Ghibli animations would be a good place to exercise Japanese language skills, I would think. I loved all I've seen so far, but particularly Kiki's Delivery Service (1989) and From Up On Poppy Hill (2011).
Possibly my favourite film of all is Kwaidan (1964), based on Japanese folklore, which I have written an extended review of for Frame Rated, if you're interested :
