Spooky...

I read of a paranormal experiment (I think it was recounted by Lyall Watson and I am broadly paraphrasing here) where they were trying to set up tests in clinical conditions to monitor people with special powers, like telepathy, out-of-body or astral travelling - that kind of thing - and every time they were close to running the experiment something went wrong.

Minor things to begin with, equipment not working, power cuts, the wrong connector was delivered... then more serious tings, like the one of the team being ill, or a state emergency that prevented them from reaching the laboratory. When they thought they'd compensated for all those sorts of things, with contingencies in place, one of the team had a car accident on the way and broke their leg.

The things preventing the experiment got progressively worse and eventually they were concerned enough about potential loss of life they called it off.

...sounds like the basis for a horror novel.
