Thank you, Victoria, for taking time to comment and for your useful feedback.

I am so glad to hear the article is of use — and you are very perceptive! Because I too taught History of Art and Design for 20+ years and since ‘retiring’ have been remembering the lectures that I enjoyed delivering and that engaged the students the most. (Y’know, with their questions and discussions, they taught me as much as I taught them.)

I’ve been using those memories and my lecture notes in writing these articles on Medium. To begin with the ones on Art seemed most popular but, lately, I’ve been sneaking in some on design to The Signifier… and there’re more where that came from.

I feel a connection with your mini-Medium bio, too. Dogs rule. Also, I remember watching a documentary presented by Jim Al-Khalili in which he described a Victorian scientist as, “an obscure aristocrat and experimentalist” — thought that would be great on a business card!

Let me know if you’d be interested in submitting to The Signifier — a not too complicated, yet not too simplified, look at the evolution of art (including design and media) in short bites and bigger essays taking in art history, design icons, media theories, analysis of great works, think-pieces around art, the signifiers and the signified…

All the best, Remy.
